Victory Garden: Things Get Kinky

Turns out our tomato plants are hermaphrodites. A parent never knows how their kids will turn out, but we still love them and just want them to be healthy and happy. Apparently tomatoes are self pollinating (much like lonely 13 year old boys). A bee comes along to get some nectar from the one of the tomatoes flowers and in the process shakes some pollen from the male part of the flower onto the female part of the flower. Why is this of any relevance? Because our tomatoes are growing indoors where there are no bees to pollinate and they are already growing flowers. This means that TWSF is going to have to help our plants have sex with themselves.

TWSF was worried that the quaint windowsill garden would turn into the set of some sort of inter-species erotic film titled 'Young, Tight and Hermaphrodite.' But all we had to do was shake the flowers every day to knock loose some pollen. Though it still felt a little dirty.  Hopefully it worked, guess we will find out in a couple of weeks.

Sticking it to the man update:

We've been using the herbs while the tomatoes are growing:
Basil 2 uses
Oregano 2
Rosemary 2
Sage 1
Mint 1
(I'm having a hard time putting a dollar amount to all the extra oxygen that is being released in my room)

Initial investment $69 - 8 uses x $2 per use = $53 in the hole, pretty good return so far
