Lauriol Plaza

Lauriol Plaza - picture from Spork and Knife
Lauriol Plaza has been my favorite spot to grab some stiff margaritas and cheap Mexican food since moving to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) over two years ago. Located off of Dupont Circle, this three story establishment attracts all types of crowds, from the families with highchairs enjoying a Sunday dinner to young professionals with high heels enjoying a Saturday pregame. This is the place to go when my girlfriends and I want to enjoy a marathon gab session. Lauriol Plaza provides the perfect combination of a gossiping atmosphere and an endless supply of their famous frozen swirly margaritas.

The restaurant spreads over three floors: a bottom floor dining area with an outdoor patio and bar, a second floor dining area, and a third floor roof deck. Although you'd think they'd be able to fit the entire DC population in the restaurant, you will wait (sometimes even an hour) on a weekend night, but you can stand at the bar and start off with some chips and a Corona to make the time pass a little more quickly. Once you are seated, servers are quick with the chips and salsa, and orders come out in a timely manner.

Since my cousin Katie was in town, I wanted to take her to Lauriol to meet up with my friend Emily for, of course, a gabbing session. I don't think I need to describe our food in detail (think: good Mexican food, nothing fancy), so I'll let you salivate over the pictures…
