Flat Caitlin and Chuck go to Rivieria Maya, Mexico

Flat Caitlin was very excited that she was going to the beach in Mexico with her new friend Chuck. They both really needed a break from their daily routine. The flight from Washington DC (Chuck’s hometown) to Rivieria Maya, Mexico was 1360 miles! Flat Caitlin was really tired when she finally got to the resort and the first thing she wanted to do was take a nap. There is no better place for a nap than on a comfy chair right next to the pool.

After she woke up from her nap flat Caitlin was feeling a little hot.  The temperatures in Mexico in early May is usually around 90 degrees. That is almost 30 degrees warmer than her hometown of Boston. Luckily she was already right next to the pool so she hopped in to cool off. The pool was as long as two football fields! It had two waterfalls and two swim up juice bars that served frozen slush for free! Everyone in the pool seemed extra happy.

Flat Caitlin was having so much fun in the pool that she almost forgot that the ocean was only a 2 minute walk away. She had never seen water that shade of blue before. She and Chuck spent all day playing in the sand and waves, looking for sea shells and watching the crabs, fish, and snails that live in the shallow water on the beach.

After a few days on the beach Flat Caitlin and Chuck took a morning trip to visit the ancient Mayan city of Tulum. Tulum was an important port and religious site for the Maya who were the original inhabitants of this part of Mexico. Archaeologists have been able to date the city to the year 564, making the city at least 1446 years old! Flat Caitlin took this picture of one of the ruins.

The people at the resort were really nice and Flat Caitlin made some new friends including Isabella the Iguana. Despite being from different species, Flat Caitlin and Isabella had a lot in common including lying in the sun, climbing on rocks, swimming, climbing trees, and eating vegetables.

Flat Caitlin and Chuck had a great time on their trip to Mexico and were sad when it was time to go back home. They made a promise to each other to go on another trip together as soon as possible. Flat Caitlin said she hears Greece is nice this time of year .. . . ..
