TWSF goes to the Big Apple, next stop: Penelope Cafe

On Saturday morning Alex and I decided to ditch the boys and head over to Penelope for a very girly brunch. This place was ADORABLE. Think, summer cottage with a little white picket fence. Alex was right, it was the perfect spot for us to gab.

Upon arrival, our names were sketched on a chalkboard wait list and we grabbed some complimentary coffee. Penelope’s is notorious for their no-reservation policy and long waits, but if you arrive with that expectation it won’t be too painful, I promise. We were seated after about 40 minutes and were quickly greeted with coffee refills. We both ordered the pre-fixe brunch special, an apple cider mimosa with any entree for $14.95. I couldn’t believe it, only $14.95? DC you have some learning to do.

It was a tough choice, but after seeing a plate at the table next to us we both ordered the salmon wrapped poached eggs. The portions were generous and came with a side salad. We weren’t quite finished with our gab session, and ordered strawberries with nutella, and some cupcakes to-go (we couldn’t entirely forget about our men!). Between the food and my company, it was the perfect Saturday brunch in the city.
