Corduroy

Let me start by saying this post is long overdue. I've been a bit MIA the past few weeks, due to things like work, work, and more work. Anyways, back to food blogging...

For my birthday this year, I had requested that we dine some place new since we love to hit up our favs in DC. I was excited when the other blogger made reservations to wine and dine me at Corduroy, a proclaimed "hidden gem" across the street from the DC Convention Center. The reviews looked promising, and I couldn't wait to check it out.

Upon being seated it was clear that Corduroy is sophisticated. Every table was occupied and the clientele appeared to be out for a business meeting or special occasion. We walk around this neighborhood every night, how did we miss this place and how did all these other people know about it?

As for the food, it was first class. We started with simple burrata mozzarella salad that has inspired me to use arugula in every bowl of greens (check back for my perfect arugula salad recipe). Our server listed the specials, and it was clear what one of us was ordering: braised beef cheeks, you had me at hello. We decided Chuck would pick the cheeks and I ordered the scallops with the intention of sharing. Both dishes were perfect, we only wished our stomachs were bigger. The scallops were exquisite and accompanied by some seriously mouthwatering mushrooms. Chuck's cheeks were everything we'd hoped for, comforting and fork tender.

Being my birthday and all, Chuck let me pick the dessert. My obvious choice was the pumpkin cheesecake because let's be honest, what is better than pumpkin anything? Nothing, that's what. It was great and was dressed with a lovely chocolate birthday wish.

It was the perfect ending to my birthday month (yes, I said month) and I would recommend Corduroy as a special occasion ($$$$$$) spot to anyone!

Note: Sorry for the lack of mouthwatering pictures, we felt awkward whipping out the camera!
